OK, one of the other members posted a quaestion about the difference in teh 800 series models so I did a side by side comparison on HP's site and noticed something peculiar that may squeeze a little more performance out on my 816.

My 816 has the T8100 2.1 GHz CPU and the site specs list a 800MHz Front Side Bus however the RAM that is installed is PC5300 667.  Would changing to the PC6400 800MHz RAM result in a performance boost?  I hadn't done all the math and research so I'm not sure what FSB my CPU is running at and if it would improve performance.

If thats the case, then plunking down 60.00 to newegg.com for Kingston HyperX 800MHz RAM woulld be a good investment as far as performance.

Right now my WEI (Windows Exprience Index) is 5.0 with my RAM the lowest denominator and the rest of my specs maxed out at 5.9.

Just Curious.

Well, a quick check of intels site revealed that the 8100 is running a 800MHz FSB so the PC5300 667 RAM IS in fact a bottleneck!

Wonder why HP would do something like that just to shave a few bucks off a setup...

that's why the new IQ820 model uses P7450 CPU as it support higher FSB, I currently have the IQ820 and i can tell you the machine feels really fast, i don't have the older IQ800 that i can compare, but i am certain the IQ820 is faster then other IQ800s.

According to Crucial.com and Kingston memory's websites, the max supported is 667 MHz. I actually have a 2G 800MHz SODIMM from a laptop that I upgraded so I'll only have to buy a single stick, so now my experiment will only cost $30.00.
I think Crucials and Kingstons info is based on specs from HP.

Well, to answer my own question....I opened up the memory compartment and lo and behold DDR2 800MHz Memory. Interesting though because my HP configuration clearly shows that it comes with 667. However, my TS was one of the HP Magic Giveaway models and was used as a review model on a tech site so it *may* have shipped with the faster memory to tweak performance a bit.
Hmmmmm. Interesting.

You're really asking this question in the wrong place but to help you out a bit, you shoud check the "Memory Configurators" at www.crucial.com or www.kingston.com .

Each of the websites allow you to put in your brand and model number and give you recommendations as to which is the best memory for your computer.  Once you know which is best, you can either purchase it from them or look for that type of memory at other sources.
