The drivers provided by N-trig for multitouch in windows 7 should be avoided. after installing the drivers you will lose pen functionality in any operating system you have loaded on your machine. the driver update is also a firmware update. This update is not reverseable via hp or hp support.

in order to restore pen and touch in vista or in 7 you must re run the install package and choose uninstall, then install the vista multi touch package for dells latitude xt, it will fail in install but will revert your firmware version.

don't waste your time with a fresh install of the operating system, it doesn't revert your firmware.

not sure if this is necessary but i also unplugged the battery to let all the charge out of the circuits. not sure if that does anything but was part of my "process".

hope this helps somebody,

HP, please take care of N-trig, i think they need some hand holding and since you are using their screen, you are now thier liable parent. Stop dodging responcibility and help them do their job better.

That is because they are not 64-bit.

March 9, 2009 12:34 AM

it has nothing to do with 64 bit. they have different issues

April 13, 2009 7:51 PM

Some little tutorial:

1) Download the Dells N-Trig driver (choose your version):
*XP Tablet:
http://ftp.us.dell.com/input/N-Trig_Multi-Touch-Digitizer_A02_R206868.exe

*Vista 32bit:
http://ftp.us.dell.com/input/N-Trig_Multi-Touch-Digitizer_A02_R206867.exe

*Vista 64bit:
http://ftp.us.dell.com/input/N-Trig_Multi-Touch-Digitizer_A02_R206869.exe

2) Run this setup and install it.
3) This setup will install up to 100% but ends in a error, but overrided your Firmware.
4) Restart
5) Now you can normaly touch your sexy display =)
6) Install your old, normal driver =)

There was an update on gottabemobile.com with a link to new drivers.

Read the full post: http://www.gottabemobile.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=7773

CAUTION: If you are going to update your Tx2 Tablet to the Windows7 RC, you MUST use the latest n-trig drivers on their website.

Woohoo! I won my Touchsmart!

Per my experience, if you are in Windows7, just use the original vista version driver for N-trig, it works fine.

Please HELP ME!!!

I did your procedure in my Windows 7 RC x64 with Dell x64 drivers.

Now drivers installation show the error "n-trig hardware was not detected on your system"!!

I tried installing the entire Windows again, I tried reinstalling the drivers for Dell and HP, but nothing works!
HELLLP!

Same problem here. I keep getting the "N-trig hardware not detected on your system" error now. Anyone else come across this error (and hopefully a solution)?

June 12, 2009 4:07 PM

Niranda's instructions are no longer the best method (official TX2 Win7 beta drivers are now out.)

Same issue here now. "N-Trig Hardware not detected"

I have an unrecognized USB device in the manager, but I cannot fully uninstall it, and it won't take any other inf or driver.

Anyone have a solution?

Need a bit more background than that.
What Windows are you running (Win7 RC, RTM, beta?) Have you previously had the Win7 drivers installed?

September 21, 2009 1:47 PM

Wow, fast!

Yes, I did have Win7 x64 installed before as a dual boot alongside Vista 32. I want to stay on Vista 32 now. Should I maybe reinstall Win7 and try to reinstall/uninstall the drivers? I think I tried this last night, but I may not have. it was a long and frustrating event.

And...I just notice this is an HP site, mine is a Dell latitude XT, so sorry about that :(

September 22, 2009 7:32 AM

Yes, I believe the Win 7 multitouch drivers need to be uninstalled for the touch screen to work in Vista.
The Win 7 drivers update the firmware of the touch screen device, essentially making it a different device, so now the Vista drivers don't detect it.

September 22, 2009 7:38 AM

Please, dont try Beta drivers of N-Trig!!!

I had to send my Touchsmart for assistance, it damaged my hardware.

Wait for the final version, because these drivers update the firmware of your notebook.

The latest release works works fine on my Windows 7 RTM 32bit.

If I unbderstood this thread correctly, the issues only ocuur when trying to downgrade to Vista again, don't they?

September 22, 2009 9:38 AM

Yes, it only hurt when I went back to Vista and it tried to reinstall the drivers. Both firmwares were in the digitizer and now it's useless.
