I've noticed a good number of complaints on the reliability of the fingerprint scanner on the touchsmart laptops, so I figured a thread with hints from people who have their working might be useful.

I've had my machine for 3 days now, and this is what I discovered on the first day in relation to the scanner...

As you swipe your finger across it you have to roll your finger towards the tip of your finger to get the full print. It's sorta like if you have your fingerprints taken on paper, you have to roll your thumb side to side, then you sort of press it down and roll it forwards towards the tip. (Maybe I should just make a video.. haha)

After trying to get it to log my fingerprints for the first time (which took about 10 tries), It hasn't read my print right away only twice. And so far I've used it at least 50 times (website passwords stored with it).

I hope this helps out.

I've notice that when I breath on my finger (thumb) to warm it up before I swipe, it always works on the first try. Otherwise, it takes several swipes.

use ur pointer finger, instead of up-down motion, use right to left motion, go very slow, from the edge of computer to the screen

I bought my wife a new Touchsmart Tablet today, and we're having troubles getting the fingerprint reader software to register any web sites to work as a password manager- it fails to recognize that the websites are logon pages, and never gives us the option to store passwords. Can anyone offer any help?

By the way, the reader itself has been giving consistent good reads as long as we give it a good swipe.

Thanks!
Jeremy

The fingerprint reader is on the right hand side of the screen, in the middle of the frame. It is a goldish color.
