Hi all,

I purchased a tx2-1025 a few days ago.  The second day I had it, I came across a problem where the keyboard stopped working.  I guesst I was unfortunate enough to have searched Google before I bought the laptop to find about 200 articles on this issue.  Sealed  I found that removing the battery and holding the power on for about 30 seconds (like people suggested) worked to solve the issue.  I also downloaded a new BIOS, and hope that helps.

I have come across two more issues.  The first is that when I run any kind of installer, the screen goes blank for a bit, and finally comes back with the installer.  I am not sure if this is a Vista issue or an issue with the video driver.

Second, I have attempted to configure the tx2 to extend the desktop to my second monitor.  Unfortunately, it is only working in clone mode.

Should I expect any other gotchyas?  I was kinda excited to have a new laptop after using my Toshiba Qosmio for about 4 years.  Moving from a 15" wide screen to a 12" takes getting used to.  Having so many issues in my first week is starting to concern me.

thanks for any tips,

Dave

Hello Dave,

me too purchased a new tx2-1015 last week.. there's a tiny dot which can be clearly seen on the monitor in the right bottom corner of the screen and is particularly conspicuous when the screen has a light background such as blue (yes I tried to wipe it out but its obviously a production fault!)...By concidence, I also have an old laptop of Toshiba, which I inspected closely to discover their monitor is perfectly normal.

Myself, no idea what I could do about it since I bought it in the UK, as wanted a new brand model and they're not sold in my home country yet. The online seller I got it from had the only one item left in stock, so they couldn't have changed it even if they'd wanted..This dot is a tiny little one and is not in the main screen area, so is not noticeable when you watch movies, but I was so dissappointed, you want a normal monitor for your money, don't you. doesnt HP have quality check on its monitors.:(

could HP possibly replace it, any ideas?

yours respectfully,
Maria

how long has it been since you purchased the product? It might still be under HP's product warrenty in which case you can call them up and send it in for little or no cost. The hard part will be proving it was like that when you got it and not something you caused, they might question that so be prepared.

In fact, I only bought it last week. HP said yes, they could replace it, as their pixel policy states any 2 dots within 25 mm of each
other that are always on is valid reason for replacement.

My only problem remains that I bought it from a UK retailer while am in Russia now- HP Russia can't change it as they told me by phone. so will have to wait when Im in the UK again.
:) so the only other thing I could wish for is that HP worldwide could adapt the same policy everywhere, so I didn't have to go back to the UK to change it.

could you ship it? Might cost you for the shipping though. I don't know your situation and how often you go to the UK but at least you have an option for fixing. Good Luck

I read somewhere that there was a multi-touch double tap "boss key" feature that blanks the screen. I accidentally got it to work twice. but I had to take out the battery and drain the power to get my screen to come back on.

That is what I came up with when I had this issue. HP just needs to code a bit more carefully here and there.
