I need a developing environment for the MS Surface SDK, which only runs on 32 bit Vista/XP. I now have a dual boot Touchsmart IQ 515nl but I need drivers for the video card installed (NVIDIA GeForece 9600M GS drivers.

HP doesn't offer them (??) and the NVIDIA installation software doesn't seem to recognize the card.

Does anybody have a solution? I really need this ASAP as our Surface unit is claimed by several people a day and I can't make any progress right now.

Thanks.

Bart

Are you trying to install the 9600M GS or the 9600 GS Drivers.
Looks like Nvidia has some Beta Drivers for Vista 32 bit v.179.48.

Hope that helps some.

I'm having the same issue. The official drivers from nVidia don't recognize the display adapter in Windows Vista 32bit. I've tried both Geforce 9 Series and Geforce 9M Series. None works... We also need Windows Vista 32bit for development and HP doesn't provide the drivers...

Ok, I solved it.

You need to download drivers and modified INF files from www.laptop2go.com.

The modified INF files support the Touchsmart in Vista 32.

Cheers,

Zigor.

Everything you need:

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=23526

Click on "Driver" for the 40Mb driver file and click on Modded INF to overwrite the INF file in the original driver after you extract it to a folder. Once overwritten, launch the driver setup program and it will work.

What ever happened to the "nvidia unified drivers" that I remember from the desktop cards? That was one of the best things about the GeForce series when they first came out on through at least the last one I bought, back when Doom 3 came out in 2004, I think it was a BFG GeForce 6800GT. I've been too busy and getting more blind every year as I progress into my early 50's so the gaming isn't as important as it used to be. I do have a couple of flight sims I'd like to dust off from time to time, but that's about it. Doesn't nvidia still have unified drivers that work with everything GeForce in the desktop? Are the MXMII cards with the M designation unsupported by Nvidia because the notebook manufacturers want a stranglehold on all things mobile? What do the DIY laptop guys do with their rigs? Are they stuck unless they know a programmer or developer who can modify the drivers to work in XP?
I have found the hard way that HP has blocked the 9600M GT from the PC's bios on my 526, and I'm still looking for a solution to that problem in other forums. I'm okay with the 9300M GS in my machine, but I'm thinking I'd really like to try the Call of Duty series, as I've been really cheap keeping a 2003 model Toshiba A15 with an onboard intel GPU as my primary pc here at the house.

Nvidia has the Win Vista 32 and 64 bit drivers available for download. Go to the site and they are listed under drivers/9 series/9600 GS/Windows Vista 32/
The current version is 179.48 dated feb 2009.
They have also added subcategories for Win7 32 and 64 bit. Latest releases for those is March 3, 2009.

I also have the problem and get this when I go to my maintenance progran..

Address a problem with NVIDIA Graphics Driver

NVIDIA Graphics Driver has stopped working properly.

A driver update, if available, might prevent this problem from recurring.
I go to the nvidia site and the driver for this won't install.

When I was looking for a solution to the same problem I found this:

http://www.touchsmartdevzone.com/group/discussion/1612/Nvidia-display-drivers...

Try downloading the 32 bit version of the driver and follow the same steps maybe.

Please report back so everyone knows whether it works or not.

I have been looking for a better solution yet and found one!

It is a very easy and quick solution to mod a desktop driver to make it compatible with our mobile GPU as the people on laptop2video do.

1. Go to: http://www.driverheaven.net/nvmodtool.php and scroll to the very bottom of the page and download the nVidia Mobility Modder.

2. Install Mobility Modder

3. Go to nVidia website and download the newest driver available for you operating system.

4. Using any free utility like 7zip unzip the nVidia driver to your desktop or any other suitable destination.

5. Open Mobility Modder and navigate to where you unpacked the nVidia driver.

6. Click Modify.

After a few seconds it will finish modifying the driver and you can go to the folder with unpacked drivers and install it without any issues.

I just tried it on my Windows 7 64 bit system and it worked like a charm.

Wow!

Forget 3D :( Our card does not support it :(

I hadd 8800M GTs on my laptop and it supported 3D and worked like a charm with 3D glasses from ebay for mere $10.

I just tried this and after the installation it said my system was not modified. I checked under Control Panel and it said that the driver hadn't been updated since October 2008 and that the driver version is 7.15.11.7669. That can't be right, right?
