hey,
is that pic u posted, a pic of the grainy screen? if so, can you repost it? I am thinking about buying a tx2z but im still undecided due to the screen issues and I just want to know how bad it is. Also, i heard that a photodon crystal screen protector improves the screen quality, do you by any chance know by how much? or have any pics
Thanks,
cya
i just recived the tx2z by mail.
it looks pretty impressive, but like most people told me....the screen is a bit grainy.
i just called HP and they told me it cant be changed because of the multiple layers for the sun and touch. well i cant say i hate it really....just need to get used to it.

The grainy screen is really bad, don't buy one. I'm so happy I managed to sell the one I bought.
so many conflicting views..:P
lol i think i have to see it for myself, only problem is I live in australia and all the computer shops i've been to, dont have it on demo. if you know a link where they have pics of the matte screen or preferably comparison pics between the two different screens, pls let me know.
Thanks
I have the matte screen and haven't had any problems with it. I personally like how it feels especially to my fingers. A glossy screen would be a nightmare imo.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I said until I wised up, lol.

The new Tx2's are supposed to ship with the glossy screens, if you are concerned just wait for a couple weeks or so and you will be able to order the new one.
IMO the screen is noticably grainy, very poor viewing angles especially when you consider this is a tablet laptop so viewing angles are not always dead on center. The photodon crystal screen protector helped out noticably with the "grain" in the screen and is a must have for screen protection anyways.

the new tx2's that are coming out after the windows 7 release?? so the ones that are available after Oct 22nd and the only noticeable difference is that they are now preloaded with windows 7?
if so, sweeeet..lol, glare doesnt bother me too much and i will be investing in the photodon antiglare protector anyways.
also, where did you hear that hp has decided to go back to the glossy screens with the tx2? and do you know any other differences between the pre-windows 7 version and post? have they fixed any of the heat issues etc? I think I read somewhere that they might be using the new revision of the turion x2 thats slightly smaller and produces less heat, is that true?
the only thing, i hope the price doesnt go up too much with the new ones, 799 is something i can afford lol.
thanks
The heat issue was largely solved, either by the bios update or by updating to W7.
Also, Mirai, quit your trolling. ;D
Lol, I bought a Tx2 a month ago and the grainy screen isn't a problem at all. Then I stuck a Photodon Clear on it, I don't even notice it anymore. My only problem with it is taking notes with it with a pen.
It doesn't do it very well because the screen recognizes my palm as a touch even though I've put it to pen mode only. And the pen issue where it recognizes the pen as still touching the screen even though I've already lifted off the screen to write a new letter is a bit annoying. It happens a lot on OneNote 2007, not too often with InkSein, and sometimes with Evernote. I haven't found a good note taking software yet because of this little issue. =(
Maybe it's software, maybe it's hardware. I hope it's solved when I install the real Windows 7 and not the Win 7 RC 7100 version.
Overall I am satisfied with it.
I just downloaded the touch control and it works great at disabling the touch while I am inking!
It also lessened the pigtails created when inking.
Thanks to one of the post made by one of the TSC members, thanks!
I recommend all Tx2 owners should get it!
I have also ordered one and will get it on the 22nd. It is supposed to come with a windows 7 upgrade, but I think I will have to get it on disk or something. My old computer is an acer and has about 40 gig hard drive. Anything for me would be a huge upgrade. Does anyone know about sync with the touchsmart or windows 7 with my pda/smartphone? And is there any must have accessory (besides the screen protector) that I need? I can't wait!!
Thanks,
Rachael

A must have accessory for the Tx2, at least in my opinion, is the Motorola S-9 HD (Bluetooth Headset) and an extra battery; a Bluetooth USB if your Tx2 didn't come with Bluetooth like mine did.
The headset has great sound and is really convenient! The battery is a must for those long trips / sessions without a plug; I have extra 8-cell (the big one) battery as a back-up. And of course the obvious screen protector, make sure you get the Photodon Clear, it makes the speckling A LOT LESS noticable.
You won't regret it!
Enjoy your new Tx2!
Bluetooth mouse is pretty handy for when using touchscreen/trackpad isnt getting the job done for precision/fast work.
Other than that, glare isnt the problem Amature777, its "grain" in the screen. Get the Crystal photodon protector, that solves alot of it and makes it go from looking like a defective screen to reasonable. Absolute must have.

Sorry, you didnt mention that you were going to get the current version or the updated version, I assumed you ment the current one for the screen issues.
We are not entirely sure just yet what will be happening with the tx2's for the upgraded model OTHER than the new screen and windows 7 which was confirmed in an article. I dont have the link offhand, but it is somewhere on these forums. It was expected that they were going to use the new 45nm turions and the 4200 ati graphics chipset and follow the preplanned ATI roadmap, however while some other models are going in that direction, we have not gotten conclusive evidence yet that the tx2's are going to be updated with this just yet. The new chip has a slightly smaller core yes, and will produce less heat.
Windows 7 didnt cause heat in and of itself, that is a issue relating hardware and drivers. The new bios for the tx2 helps alot with heat issues, as well as undervolting the CPU. Updates to win7 since the RC's have been bug fixes mostly and final tweaking. I just got my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (full copy, signature edition) installed yesterday and aside from a little better stability, nothing else noticable changed which is to be expected.

Sorry but it is NOT bad whatsoever. It is still perfectly useable and crisp.

If it wasn't that bad there wouldn't be so much conversation on the internet about the screen. Everyone has their views, mine is that it was ridiculous. Selling that thing and buying a laptop with a nice clear screen was the best thing I have done for my eyes. Let's not get started on the horrible viewing angles too, all but making tablet mode useless.
You may be fine with these problems, but I definitely wish I listened to the people telling me what I have basically said above before I bought the thing. Would have saved myself a lot of time and money. Each to their own.
I am having problems with the tv program which says it has to close and then recommends a reload of the program from HP. My problem is, the download takes over an hour and my computer says the session has ended. Any recommendations about speeding the thing up.
Besides that, the computer is fun. True, the screen is a little grainly, but readable. I'm going to get the photodon protector.
If anyone has a great idea about how to speed it up, let me know. And can you use simple language? I'm a therapist, not a computer person!
Thanks!!!!
Rachael
Reinstall your operating system so that all the crap programs included are removed. It'll take a little research, but not beyond anyone's grasp.
Afterward you would go to HP's website to reinstall the drivers and software, another easy step once you are exposed to it.
