I have both the 500 and the 800

I can see that the 800 screen is missing an inch on both sides of the display????

 Is this unusable space

I have the resolution set at 1900 pixels wide.

Thanks Bill

I haven't gotten the opportunity to see the 800 in person yet, but I do know the display's native resolution is 1920x1200. If that's what you're set at, it should fill the usable space.

The "missing" inches are just a side-effect of how the bezel around the LCD panel was designed. It looks a bit unusual, but that's how it was designed. Something to do with symmetry of bezel widths, I believe.

My suspicion has always been that they were designing around a different panel and then the reality of what could ship with the units resulted in the current layout.

Thanks, Diane for the further input; all I do is say again, what a disappointment.

Why are you disappointed? You are still getting the visible screen size and resolution that is advertised. As GTG mentioned, the extra space is for the sensor array of the touchscreen.

Answering David, I'll put up a private reply posted yesterday:
The deal was reasonable but this descrepency makes it not worth it- I've got four TS's, up to a 610 w/ 23" and was looking forward to putting a 25.5" VIEWABLE screen into a 28" hutch/desk enclosure. I'd have to move it out to insert any media, especially to access the DVD drive but now I don't think it's worh the hassle- I'm happy with the 610.
