I have a Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit 4GB RAM Touchsmart IQ818A with an empty HP Pocket Media Drive Bay.

What is the best use for this bay?  Extra storage, backup, RAM disk or something else?

What is the maximum capacity of Pocket Drive media and is bigger capicity on its way?

I have two drives that I use in my bay. Each are 250 gigs and I have one for my music and multimedia (which I also use in my MesiaSmart Connect) and the other is for my backups and important documents.

They keep increasing in size as drive technology gets better. I had a 120 GB one that I swapped out for a 250 drive. It was easy to take apart and put the larger drive in it and it uses a regualr SATA laptop HDD inside the casing.

Why not just a regular external USB drive? Less clutter. The pocket media drive sits snugly in its tight little compartment out of the way of everything on my desk.

The Pocket Media Drive is a small (2.5" laptop formfactor) external hard drive that is squared off on one side and rounded on the other so it is "keyed" to fit into the slot correctly. The pocket media bay, as far as I know will only accept hard drives. Its not a multibay slot like some laptops have that will accept either batteries, additional hard drives or CD/DVD drives.
I'll try to post a pictire of mine..have to cherge camera batteries though.

I bought one off Amazon.com and you can also find them on ebay. They range from about $89.00 USD for the smaller capacity drives up to a couple hundred dollars.
I was also lucky enough to find just the enclosure on ebay for one and put my own spare HDD into it. I think I paid less than $30.00 USD for it but I have not seen any listed since then.
