The fan is loud for a because the processor is hot. If you take steps to reduce processor speed the fan will quiet down.

But if you are bent on opening up your laptop I only have a couple of tips

Get a set of precision tools. Microcenter or Frys should have something nice.
An empty container of a Ferrero Rocher hazelnut Chocolate 12 pack makes a great place to hold screws.

Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it.

Besides the fact that there is no Microcenter or Frys in Germany I'd recomment Conrad or any hardware store if you need to buy some precision tools. In my opinion it won't be such a big problem to loosen some screws and have a look for that noisy fan. The bigger problem will be to find a new fan / cooling solution that fits in space of the actual "hairdryer".
Reducing the processor speed to a minimum is a solution to keep the noise at a very low level and works for most office applications but if you're using programs that profit of more processor speed it's very annoying to hear the fan screaming like hell. If I'm setting the processor under maximum load at 2.4 GHz it reaches temperatures around 90°C. Idle temp at 600 MHz is around 40°C.
Whoever invented this cooling solution for the TX2 must be deaf.

another place to store screws that I have learned is an ice cube tray, easy to organize and keep them in order (especially if you number the slots with tape or a permanent marker).

Personally speaking, this fan isn't too bad compared to my old HP Pavilion N5150 fan or my desktop fan. Both of those have leafblowers for fans and I really don't care how loud the fan is. The reality is I'm going to use it when I need it and if somebody has a problem they are just going to have to deal with it :-/

@Niranda

Any luck with modding your laptop with a new fan? I would be interested in doing the same.
