The Tx2z's screen is different from other tablet PCs I've used, where the screen was actually glass or other simular substance - and was a bit harder for them get scratched.

But on the Tx2z, the screen is different and reminds of other unprotected lcd panels that can get scratched pretty easy.

As such I was wondering if anyone has tried using a screen protector. You can find them on Ebay, and even find some that will fit the tx2z's exact screen size. If anyone has tried one, I was wondering what your opinion was. Did you like it? Did the screen protector get in the way of the Tablet's function with the stylus or multi touch? Do you feel they protect the screen enough from scratche?

Thanks

If you're still looking for feedback I personally chose to use a screen protector. I seached around and found a site that talked about the various options and whether they worked or not... the word there was be careful becuase some protectors seemed to interfere with normal operation. I wish I could find the link so you could read their list of buys and don't buys for the tx2z, but I didn't save it. I do know that I chose Photodon's protector. It was listed as a really good choice, so I ordered a couple. They came extremely fast (next day I think) and they even sent a test sheet to put on the display to make sure everything worked before attaching the real product (not sure if that is unique to them, 1st time I've ordered for anything other than a smartphone, thought I'd mention it). I've had no issues that I know of with it, seems to work the same with as with-out.

Here is a link to the one I got:

If that helps you in your decision at all.

Robby, did it help with the glare problem?

April 9, 2009 1:26 PM

I didn't use it for a long time without the protector so I really don't have a good grasp on how much it helped. It's supposed to be anti-glare, and I really don't have really bad glare issues, so I imagine it's doing something for me. :)

I linked to the wrong one above, BTW. The one I linked above is the crystal clear version, I have the anti-glare version. This is the link for the anti-glare:

Sorry I can't be more help with some before/after glare comments.

I just got a anti-glare screen guard from NuShield.com. So far so good I needed it because I have the same problem with the glare in a classroom setting. They have 2 anti-glare screen guards one for inside and one for outside. I also like the fact that they float on top of the screen and I have had really good response with pen and by touch. The only thing call your order in if you do order because whoever cut mine for my screen did not have a steady hand and you can not trim it to make it better because than it would be to small. Next time I will go with a larger size and then cut to fit.

I use this some screen guard that I bought from some computer shop here in the Philippines. Does your screen guards get scratches? Mine does but, other than that, works fine.

Does the photodon leave any sticky glue residue behind if you peel it off from the touch screen ?

June 1, 2009 2:55 AM

I also went with Photodon's anti glare screen protector. I have used a screen protector like it for my PSP and it didn't leave behind any residue so I am thinking this one wont either. So far no problems with touch or pen sensitivity. Have been using it for a week now and it stands up to normal use without scratching, I would recommend it. :)

I purchased one from eBay, but the one I got wouldn't stick to the anti-glare screen on my TX2Z. Apparently, HP cahnged the screens from glossy to my semi-matte finish without telling anyone. At any rate, the screen protector tried like hell to adhere to the bezel around the screen but would not stick to the screen at all, so I returned it.

should my Brightview ("matte") have a screen protector? Why not! -- so WHAT one is recommended?

June 2, 2009 7:07 PM

Agreed. Which one for a matte (Brightview) screen?

June 2, 2009 7:18 PM

Sounds like at at first they had a matte finish.. then they changed to glossy finish and now there is a semi-matte finish ?

I have a glossy finish.. i notice that depending on the how the skin on your finger is (dry/soft/moist) ... sometimes the finger does not glide smoothly across the the glossy finish .. perhaps thats why they switched to a semi-matte.

I am curious how much Photodon's anti glare (with matte finish) interferes with the quality of the image on screen .. espcially details. I am thinking that the matte finish might have some effect on the image.

I've ordered the crystal clear photodon screen protector and will be getting my laptop on june 4. if the matte screen is really bad, back to hp it goes. if im okay with it, then i will attempt to apply the screen protector and report back. However, if the screen protector doesn't work I might send it back anyways.

June 5, 2009 12:28 AM

Update:

I got the laptop, however due to the crappy screen quality I immediately sent it back and bought a different laptop. I dont know what you guys mean by matte, the screen was still glossy, however it looked like someone smeared Crisco behind the top layer of the LCD.

And I got the screen protector today, but I am sending it back.

Does the tx2 need a scratch protector. Thought they are scratch resistive. I do not have any problems with scratchs and i use the pen very often

The Photodon screen protectors work really well and reduce the "graininess" of the matte bright view screens that many people were complaining about, I'd definitely recommend them!

July 23, 2009 2:42 PM

Thanks Ceez. Ya, I too was very much disappointed to see the grains on the screen. But hope to get rid of it with Photodon screen protector.
However I should select the 'Crystal Clear' product and NOT the 'Anti Glair' right? Please correct me if I'm wrong. I got confused description of both these product says they save screen from scratches. Please help!!
