My seagate hd just failed last week, nothing new for the touchsmart community ha! I just feel like they punked me out by sending me a refurbished seagate hd. They should send us BRAND NEW hard drives, and start a hp refurb store with all the junk hds. I dont know it just sucks.

I Have purchased refurbed HDDs in the past and many of them are still running flawlessly. In fact, I have had LESS problems with refurbs than new or OEM drives.
Just because it is branded as refurbished DOES NOT mean it was broken. It can mean it was returned unused, was overstock that was returned, had frimware issues that were corrected. In most cases, they are tested extensively before they are put back into circulation.

Thanks for the rapid response Dave, that makes me feel a little better. So far the only problem w/ the refurb is the buzzing sound, it has to be the hard drive because the OEM was buzz free. Guess i can live with a little buzz!!

No problem.

Make sure it is securely slid into its "sled" slot and the latch is clicked into place. Also make sure you replaced the blsck retaining screw.
Check the EMI shields that cover the RAM and HDD slot too, to make sure they arent loose.
That may eliminate the buzz.
