Check the HP website for a firmware update for the DVD Drive. There have been two recent firmware fixes, one that addresses issues with creating restore disks.

I don't think HP Update picks it up. You'll have to go to HP's website and look to see if you need it.
Do you have the regular DVD drive or the Optiarc Blueray?

Heres a link for the firmware update for the IQ816's blueray dvd.

Check HP's driver site though to make sure its the same for the 820 (I'm not sure what your region is and thats important to know when downloading the right firmware) Both the 816 and the 820 list the FW as 1H09 but it may be region specific.

Another thing you may want to consider is just purchasing the disks rom HP. Theres also a link for that on the driver website. I think I paid US$16.00 for mine. I created my resotre disks before the firmware update and when it came time to do a resotre, my disks did not work.

One final note. There is a wide variety of DVD R media. Some is good quality, some not so good. before you go updating firmware, try burning something else onto a blank disk. You may also want to buy a 5-pack of some good quality disks if you bought the cheaper brands.
