Hi guys! I'm new here and very pleased to have found this great site/forum about HP's Touchsmart.

I plan to buy the TX2 by the end of the month, but I want to ask some questions first before I actually pull the trigger.

I do photo and video edits, graphics, web designs, 2d and 3d. I do these with Adobe cs3 (Photoshop, Flash, Premiere and After Effects). Will the TX2 be able to handle these at ease?

The one I'm eyeing on is called Tx2-1011AU. Is this a new one?

Specifications are:
AMD 2.3Ghz Ultra Dual Core
ATI Radeon HD3200 64mb
2gb memory (to be upgraded to 4gb)

I'm not that familiar with AMD processors and ATI graphic cards as I only have experiences on Intel and Nvidia, how can they be compared in terms of performance? I'm actually worried on the 64mb Graphic processor. How come it's only 64mb wherein standards now are at least 128mb right? Or is this just an ATI thing?

Lastly for now, a pretty silly question but is it possible to use the tablet with photoshop and illustrator? I'd like to draw, paint and color some line arts. The tablet feature is why I'm highly considering the tx2. Laughing

Any replies would be great.

Thanks.

JC

Tx2 may not good for photoshop & illustrator! because there is no wintab support for tx2, maybe you can consider about tx2500 with wacom pen, the pressure pen on tx2 only work for few graphic program, sketchbook pro, artrage, paint.net & comic studio... .

for the ATI displace card, that is 64MB MAIN memory plug more that 256m share memory, because Vista can't use all 4G memory, so you won't lose anything.

Thanks for the reply, Victor!

Too bad about Photoshop and Illustrator! I just found another thread discussion here about the issue. It seems that this problem has been forwarded to Hp already. I hope they do something about this. Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are commonly used nowadays; the tablet would be useless to graphic designers if we can't use it with Adobe.

About that card, will I be able to play recent games as well with the tx2 like Left For Dead and Assassin's Creed? Anyone here uses the tx2 for gaming?

Thanks.

I have the same model - tx2 1011AU and I am able to play games like left 4 dead. But I limit my gameplay for not more than an hour to avoid overheating. And also, I set all graphic properties to low. As for photoshop, I have no idea what wintab support is but I am able to do dribbles :) good luck

Hi guys - I have a TX2-1010ea - the one with the NTrig screen, not the Wacom one. I'm a graphic designer and regularly use the CS3 suite. I can say that I'm totally un-impressed with the pen mode when using these apps. It seems the pen doesn't track smoothly (particularly in the middle of the screen) and that makes it useless for illustration.

Every now and then I use the pen, but very rarely because it just doesn't work well. The touch works pretty good, but in vista the multi-touch is useless. Haven't tried in in Windows 7 yet but have heard great reports.

All in all, if you're a designer looking for a tablet because of the pen input, please, for the love of God, steer clear of the TX2 range unless, perhaps, you go for an older model with Wacom screen.

http://www.artrage.com/ fully supports ntrig's pen, including pressure sensitivity. blame Adobe not ntrig or hp. try win7 with the latest ntrig drivers and firmware for win7 v2.59.

Hmm, I personally think that's way off. I think blaming N-Trig and HP are perfectly reasonable in the case of the TX2. To be clear - I'm specifically talking about the implementation of the pen / digitizer functionality. I like to think I'm pretty capable on the PC, but unless I'm missing something, this is clearly a bad implementation of the SOFTWARE and calibrating implementation for the pen on the TX2.

My pen issues are not limited to the use in Adobe apps, though- it's everywhere.

Sure - Adobe should get their act together and support this - especially the pressure-sensitivity. I agree on that. But for the love of God, HP, don't make a tablet that can't be accurately calibrated. What a waste of time and money.

BTW, it's funny I keep saying 'for the love of God'.

Also, I shouldn't have to install another operating system and/or drivers for it to work - it should work perfectly well off-the-shelf. Shame on you, HP.

I personally have no problems with the calibration of the pen, and find it to work well. Pressure sensitivity in various programs, of course, is a different issue.

Hi all, I should probably say I've run a little test with the digitizer because I noticed it wasn't tracking smoothly. After a bit of testing (by drawing in Illustrator), I realised that there seemed to be a sort of 'danger strip' about 1.5cm high all the way across the centre of the display - horizontally.

What happens is that when I'm drawing anywhere within this strip, the pen DOES register in the area, but the proportions in the tracking change dramatically- the cursor tracks much, much faster inside this zone, making it impossible to control.

Initially, I though it seemed to be a calibration issue, so tried to recalibrate several times. I also tried 'tricking' the calibration by making the zones smaller and larger, but nothing worked. In fact, it seemed that calibrating it never made any difference at all.

So, it seems to me that this is some sort of hardware issue with the screen itself, or the driver software simply doesn't work very well (or at all) - particular it's calibrating function.

Any thoughts anyone?

I think you have a faulty hardware. If under warranty, I would contact HP if I were you.
