Actually, OTA stands for "Over the Air". Not sure how many cable providers are providing free HD channels that work without a box. I know there is a feature for cable called QAM, but since I cut my ties with my cabe provicer, I have not used it.
My experience with OTA HD is pretty good though on my IQ 816. I bought an amplified HD antenna at Radio Shack (at 54.00, I probably paid too much for it) and I can pull in about half of my local channels that are broadcasting in HD. Overall the quality is good too. My antenna, however, is directional so I had to use a compass to set it up and most of the signals are blocked by my neighbors house, so I'm now experimenting with antenna placement to try to improve my signal. Also, I have heard on several other forums that you DO NOT need to buy an expensive antenna to pull in HD signals. Some people even say that regualr old rabittt ears work good too. The key is having a TV/PC that has a HD tuner.
There is a website that lists all the stations broadcasting HD in your given area if you live in the US. All you do is type in your zip code and it displays a list of the channels, the distance from your location and, if you have a directional antenna, which direction to point the antenna.
I'll have to look through my links when I get back home and I'll post the URL for the site here.
