I'm not sure which it is (probably hibernate) but sometimes if my laptop is unplugged and closed, when I reopen it I cannot get it to wake up no matter what I try. The light above end/numlk and Caps Lock just flash every 5 seconds or so, sliding the power thing doesn't work, fn+f5 doesn't work, ctrl+alt+del doesn't work, I've tried probably every button combination you can imagine and nothing will wake it up, so I always have to hard-shutdown.

Also yes, I plug it in before I try to turn it on, so it's not a battery problem.

Mine does that sometimes too. Are you running Win7 or Vista? I have to hold the power button until it shuts down and then reboot it.

Vista Ultimate 64-bit

That's what I do too, very frustrating if I have something running or unsaved for some reason.

If its a MS office document, you should be able to recover most of what was lost. Not the solution to the problem but something to ease the frustration in the mean time.

If you go into your power settings in control panel and then Advanced settings, you may see that your laptop is set to go from Sleep to Hibernate after a certain period of time when you close the lid.

I have disabled ever going into Hibernate because it takes longer, much longer, to come out of hibernation that it would have taken to do a complete boot had I shut the system down. So now, when I close the lid, it just goes to sleep and wakes up right away when I reopen the lid. I would advise though, to save / close your programs when putting it in sleep mode if you are walking around or moving/driving with the PC in sleep. Hibernate saves your data before going into that state. Sleep doesn't.

I drive around all day in a sales job and close my lid to put my tx2 in sleep state. The laptop wakes up right away when I need to do a demo of my business applications.
