The only thing I can suggest off hand is to remove the Norton Internet Protection/Norton Antivirus and go with one of the free solutions like AVG antivirus. www.free.grisoft.com .
I saw a big improvement in both my Touchsmart Desktop and my laptop after removing them.
Note: Many people suggested I try the Norton 2009 as I am such a critic of Symantec, so I did. It lasted 3 days before I removed it. While It didn't slow my system down as much as the previous versions, scans took a considerable amount of time and the program was quite intrusive. It also blocked me from accesssing my home server which did not make me happy.
