Hi, everyone,

As an educator, I'm planning on picking up Microsoft Word 2007 for my tx2z 1020us. I need more than the 60-day trial MS Word software offering (and I get a very significant discount on the educator versions, LOL). I'd like to be able to carry around emailed assignments and review and grade them in virtual format, when I'm on the go. My question - "Is there a specific version of MS Word for the TouchSmart series?" I don't necessarily need touch-based features in the version. Or is there a downloadable feature? Any advice?

Thanks!

-John

Nope, no specific version of Word 2007 is needed for tablets, the TX2 or any other touch input PC for that matter. As far as programs go, since you get a good discount (I got Office Ultimate 12 (2007) for $69.00 with my student discount. (It retails for $699.00) you should go with the whole Office 2007 (Office 12) suite. You will really like OneNote for taking handwritten notes...and much more.

Note: if you are a student with a ".edu" email go to www.theultimatesteal.com to get it.

Office 2007 (also known as Office 12). Office 7 would be Office '95.

For the record -- Word 2007 is the same no matter which Office bundle it's sold with. The different bundles just have different combinations of programs, but each program is essentially identical. You will have Inking features in Word no matter which bundle you purchase.

Student discount is steeper than the educational discount.

Unless students will only be using Word, most educators find that they have to buy a PDF annotation program too. PDF Annotator is the most popular due to its low cost, but Bluebeam PDF Revu is much more reliable. It's very hard to find on their website, but they do have educational pricing.

You are correct. WIndows 7 was on my mind. It is the Office 2007 Ultimate.

I've corrected my post. Thanks.

One more significant update: The latest Service pack for office 2007 gives PDF (both open and save as) support to word. However, I don't think it gives ink annotation support as I haven't tried that feature yet.

Ink annotation has been available in Office 2007 since RTM, no service packs required. It's under Review --> Start Inking.

Pretty basic -- just functions as an overlay layer. But that's enough for most people.

Thanks, everyone,

As an educator, I was able to pick up Microsoft Office Professional 2007 for a discounted amount, that contains:

Word 2007
Excel 2007
PowerPoint 2007
Outlook 2007 w/Business Contact Manager
Publisher 2007
Accounting Express 2008
Access 2007

I also recently noticed that my TouchSmart package had Microsoft OneNote 2007 included in my software bundle - I'm not sure if it's the full version or not (I honestly haven't had time yet to install anything, let alone update anything lately, with family matters to attend to). It will be very nice to have this set of programs to work with in the future.

Ciao!

John
