I have a Touchsmart IQ800T with a TV tuner. The primary use is watching TV. From time to time the remote malfunctions. I aim the remote at the 'TV', and I can see the light on the lower right of the system acknowledge that the remote was pressed. However, no action is taken. I can press all the remote buttons, but nothing on the TV changes.

I have had two successful fixes. Occasionally, I can press CLEAR on remote, and it will work. Sometimes pressing CLEAR does nothing. Other times I have to reboot the entire system to get the remote to work.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom on how to deal with this annoying problem. Thanks.

First words of wisdom...check the batteries. ;-)

We have replaced the batteries multiple times, even checking the voltage coming out. The only fix does seem to be rebooting the computer. We also have problems with the tv signal needing to be very good for the tuner to register. We have a converter box on another tv and it picks up the signals much better than the touchsmart.

Hi Pauzinho, i have been remodeling the house and the main TV has been down so i have had to use the 800 too, i must say it is a great picture, but more importantly the remote worked fine, it might be that the remote is broken? Any chance you can borrow one? maybe the store that you bought it from?
not much help i know but might be worth a try.
Regards
Mark

Sounds more like a software problem or a conflict with the Win Media Center software since it always clears on reboot. Any particular programs running in the background in seperate windows? Does it do it when others are logged on to their respective accounts? If there is no one else's account, create a new one and log off or reboot completely, then login as the new user with admin priveleges to see if it acts up when you are in a differently set up account. What AntiVirus do you use? Any extra Internet Security programs in addition to Windows or Defender? You really only want to run one of each, AV and ISec, no more, or really weird things start to happen and not happen.
