Mine plays MP3's fine.
Did you associate the '.mp3" file extension with another program?

Woohoo! I won my Touchsmart!
This is so weird:
any mp3 file added to the music folder appears listed in the touchsmart music GUI but does not play.
I realized this after finding out that the Vista preloaded music files worked perfectly. Trying different things made me realize that touchsmart music plays .wma files but doesn't play .mp3
Every music file loaded into the music folder gets listed in the touchsmart music window, album covers, tags etc. When you click on a file it starts playing but, if .mp3 doesn't sound. The software doesn't lock, no error message appears, nothing is apparently wrong but you can hear no sound. If the file is a .wma file, you see no difference but you hear the sound. I seem to remember that before updating WMP to version 11 it didn't show this problem, but I'm not sure.
I searched for options to change settings for touchsmart software but didn't find any.
Does anybody have a solution? Is there a tweak program to use on touchsmart?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Nope, they're all associated with WMP 11 although I do have installed other players. Other players were installed to try solving the issue any which way.
I tried loading other WMA files and they work fine... only MP3 don't seem to work olthough they work fine when played with other players, including WMP.
Could I change any register string to make it happen?
on a further diagnosis I noticed that when playing .mp3 files the green progress bar doesn't appear nor it progresses.
the play button gets pressed and the pause button appears but there's no action whatsoever.
OK, I have been playing around with my sound settings for a bit and may have duplicated your problem.
Did you go into the soundmax control panel and change the bitrate settings under speake poperties?
I did, and my music quit playing in touchsmart. I changed to 24bit 48000 kHz Studio quality and the sound stopped in TS but not WMP.
However, if I close touchsmart and restart it I can get the music to play.
Have you ripped the songs yourself, downloaded them from (somewhere), or downloaded them from iTunes? In this case I'm wondering about DRM (Digital Rights Management) issues.

I really don't remember messing around with bitrate or anything like that.
Songs are from my music library, not itunes, a library built up in years from CD's, downloads etc.
Every other music software in the PC plays them fine, just Touchsmart music doesn't; I think I tried every possible thing but no success...
exactly the same problem, perhaps a problem after a windows update on windows media player ? i don't know
searching for 3 month to resolve this f... pb
I am having this same problem with a used IQ526 that I just bought. Has anyone ever had a solution? Thanks.
