It's probably because the file doesn't contain Windows Media Video content, but some other type of A/V content. Will Media Player play the file after you answer yes to the question it asks? Are you able to play the wmv file with older versions of Media Player, say on Vista or XP?
Not sure what's going on with the .mov file.
Also, remember, Windows 7 is not final yet, so you may be running into a bug.
I'm using Windows 7 and I'm having a few problems:
the first is when I'm playing a .mov file it has video but no audio this happens with all .mov files that I have.
the second is when I try to play a .wmv file Windows Media Player pops up a window that states the following:
The file you are attempting to play has an extension (.wmv) that does not match the file format. Playing the file may result in unexpected behavior.
Do you want the Player to try to play this content?
[] Don't ask me again for this extension (.wmv).
I'm a bit confused why this is happening, I have no error messages in device manager etc. the only other issue I have is a device disconnect tone every 18 seconds that is disccused elsewhere on tihs forum.
I'd appreciate any advice that can be sent to me also I'm a Microsoft Partner and I'll email the partner site about this.
No it still will not play the file
yes I can play it with older files.
and I agree its probably bugs
That's definitely what it sounds like. Especially if you can play it on Windows XP and Windows Vista.
