If you have it paired, then it is pretty easy.

Right-click the volume icon (looks like a speaker with waves coming out) on the bottom right of your screen. Click 'Playback Devices'. You should see a picture or two of headphones - the one that has the subtitle 'Bluetooth Stereo Audio' is the one you're looking for. Select it and click 'Set Default' to play audio through your headphones.

When the connection to your headphones is lost, your speakers should take over. I have a little trouble with my headphones pairing with my laptop - that is, they would pair the headset but not the stereo speakers (it kind of thinks of it as two devices). I had to disable my main speakers in the playback devices to get this to work well. Of course, I have to re-enable the speakers when I want to use them, but that doesn't happen too often on my laptop.

Again, that's with a totally different headset and computer - so you may not have any problems at all.

How do you get it paired in the first place? There isn't an icon for a Bluetooth connection in Control Panel.

I paired my bluetooth headset with my touchsmart, but following your advise I found no headset icon in the playback list. I'm sure it's paired, I see it in the bluetooth device list along with a couple cell phones. I tried using Skype to test the headset but the mic doesn't list and the audio comes from the TouchSmart speakers.
