Perc,
Are you running Vista now or win7 and want to change to Win7 to try to improve your performance?

Woohoo! I won my Touchsmart!
As a user of the TX2 I purchased this product after searching these forums for countless hours reading up on several other users problems and concerns and I that I thought I could deal with the issues people were having. I have since realized that this product has far more issues than I anticipated.
For starters this laptop runs extremely slow as a result of all the applications needed to make this laptop run (N-trig digitizer, programs that allow the side buttons to work, allow the fingerprint reader to function, the lightscribe, etc.). On top of that the digitizer does not work even after my efforts to fix this speaking to N-Trig and HP.
I could sit here and talk about the random crashes of the digitizer or the MediaSmart tool that also has been failing to startup for the past few weeks but that would be a waste of my time since I am just getting that fed up with this laptop. I want a functioning system so if anybody has found better success with the Win 7 system and the drivers are available to make it run smoothly please let me know and I will make the update but i do not want to do it to find just as many if not more issues. I want solutions something I have not found since buying this laptop several months ago.

I'm having no problems at all running Win 7 on my tx2. I simply upgraded in place from Vista and then installed the newer N-Trig drivers. Very easy and it's all working very well.

I have had a similarly easy experience with win 7 also. I was ignorant to a couple of driver installs i needed, which i did after reading these forums ;)
Everything is smooth as butta now
I currently have Vista and am thinking about going to Win 7. My only problem I have with all of this is that Win 7 is only good for another 2-3 months before it needs to be replaced....again...with a fresh install.
Sounds like Win 7 is the way to go though, I might do this sometime next week.
Actually, if you download the release candidate from microsoft the expiration date is 3/2010, just under a year.
I can't say much for how well it runs on the TX2 but my expereience with it on my TX2500 and my has been outstanding and even on my 800mHz UMPC with 2 gigs of RAM it runs significantly better than Vista.
If you decide to go with Win7 0n your TX, read through all the forums and check out the beta group forum on this site to make sure you get everything right and hopefully all will be well.
One last thing, before you change over to Win7, make sure you have a good set of recovery disks just in case you decide to go back to Vista.

I have the Touchsmart tx2 1025dx and have voiced my disgust with this terribly slow machine. If I upgrade to Windows 7 over top of the Vista Ultimate will it erase the programs and files I have already installed? Can you go back if it doesn't work to your satisfaction?
South
If you perform an upgrade from Vista to Windows 7, it will not erase your files or programs. If instead, you perform a "clean" install of Windows 7, it will. Most folks will recommend the clean install as the most reliable method of going to Windows 7, however I did it as an upgrade with no problems.
You should know that if you upgrade to the Win 7 Release Candidate, you may then have to do a clean install to go to the final release version.
To my knowledge there is no way to go back to Vista, other than to restore your system to its original state.

Hey, well I did a partition on my hard drive and install win7 as a boot and I donts seem the problem, its very fast, I love it, and whenever I want to I can switch to Vista Ultimate that was the one pre install with the TX2
Sir_Sombra
What is the process of doing that? What software did you partition with and how much space did you devote to the new partition? Can that be recovered if you want to go back?

well first of all you download the RC, and burn in into a dvd, then you create the partition, I did mine of 18gb, wind7 ask min for 16gb but as I wanted to install some programs I decided to left 2gb more .
So you go to Control Panel, then System and Maintainence -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management. Once there click on Disk Management under the Storage heading in the sidebar.
Then you shrink the existing partition (the bigger one + -150gb) right-click on the existing partition and choose "Shrink Volume" to free up space for your new partition, in enter the amount of space to shrink you choose the amount of MB (at least 16gb I recommend 18 or 19).
After it is created you right click on it and select new simple volume, format the new partition as NTFS and give it a name. Then it would appear available in My Computer.
Then you insert your dvd of win7 and restart your computer. Once the DVD boots up it's a simple matter of following along with the fairly simple installation wizard. When you're choosing installation type, be sure to select Custom (advanced) and choose the partition you set up above. Also have your product key with you.
After it is install, every time you turn on your PC you will see in your boot screen Vista and Win7
Sir somba,
if you want to free up a little more hard drive space, in windows 7, right click on recycle bin and choose properties. Set your recycle bin size to 1024mb. For your other drive, choose to not use the drive for recycle bin. Do the same while you are booted into vista. You will free up several gigabytes of drive space.
