HP has announced that starting now, along with the latest version of the TouchSmart Software , HP TouchSmart PCs are now available configure to order from the HP store, allowing you to customize a TouchSmart to fit your exact needs with a wide variety of options, including: Blu-Ray drives, processor speed, video card, and hard drive size. Until now, all TouchSmart PC products have been offered as pre-configured SKUs in a few different models, which also meant that certain options, like a Blu-Ray drive in the 22&amp;quot; model, were not possible. The familiar pre-configured models will continue to be sold at retail locations and online for those who do not wish to customize, but some retailers may choose to allow systems to configured and shipped directly to consumers. The updated TouchSmart Software is currently shipping on new TouchSmart desktop PCs, and will be offered as an update to existing TouchSmart PCs sometime in the near future. HP's got a plethora of improvements crammed in to the Spring update. While some are smaller improvements, like adding search and print fuctionality to existing apps, others make for big changes that dramatically improve the usefulness of the software. Without further adeiu, here's a sneak peek at what's coming to a TouchSmart near you. Calendar The TouchSmart Calendar app may look similar at first glance, but HP has put significant effort streamining the calendars depth and usability. It's now easier to manage, edit, and track events. You'll also see some improvements in synchronization with Google Calendar, and the handy Sync Now button is certainly a welcome change. As part of the release, HP has gotten behind the Touchsmart Community to distribute the guidelines to developers while providing an environment for TouchSmart developers to interact. Also on the site is a download hub that allows TouchSmart developers to upload and share their creations with TouchSmart owners in a central location. To kick off the new development initiative, the TouchSmart Community is running a promotion that will send one lucky developer (travel expenses paid) to demo their software in the HP booth at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, along with a free TouchSmart PC, HP MediaSmart Server, and a month of promotion in the community. Developers are encouraged to participate by downloading the developer guidelines and creating finger friendly ports of their applications.
